Abstract

Deregulated translation is a feature of all cancers. A principle cause is the aberrant expression of translation factors, tRNAs and components of the ribosome. Indeed, abnormally elevated levels of initiator tRNA or translation factors eIF2 and eIF4E can be sufficient in some circumstances to promote oncogenic transformation. I shall review this fast-moving field and present some of its latest developments.
