Abstract

The presentations in this symposium will cover developments in surgery, biological therapy and chemotherapy for lung cancer. Aman Coonar from Cambridge will evaluate the various developing roles for video-assisted surgery in the management of lung cancer. Frances Shepherd from Toronto will then guide as through the rather problematic growing pains of targeted therapy in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) to the current excitement surrounding the identification of mutations within potential targets that predict for specific activity of EGFR TK inhibitors. Finally Jean-Charles Soria from Paris will demonstrate that, contrary to the notion that chemotherapy had reached its limits, the selection of agents based on histology can deliver unexpected benefits during induction and maintenance chemotherapy and that biomarkers of resistance might also allow for better selection of agents in the adjuvant setting in NSCLC.
