Abstract

These are exciting times in breast cancer. Advances in molecular biology are identifying new targets for therapy, mechanisms of overcoming drug resistance, and new approaches to early diagnosis. A challenge for breast cancer specialists is how to co-ordinate these developments to build a strategy for the optimal management of breast cancer so that we can continue to build on the exciting survival improvement over the last decade. These issues will be developed in my introduction.
