Lung cancer – state of the art and science
Year: 2012
Session type: Symposia
Abstract
This session on lung cancer will have a clinical focus. In the George Edelstyn Lecture, Professor Frances Shepherd, an international leader in the field, will reflect on the exciting advances (and some disappointments) that have come over the past 10 years in taking the discoveries about the biology of lung cancer into clinical practice through the development of targeted agents. Stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT) is increasingly available in the UK and being used clinically. Dr Kevin Franks will provide a summary of the current evidence about its use and suggest how further research should be developed. Finally, Dr Corinne Faivre-Finn will discuss the continuing controversies about the management of patients with Stage III non-small cell lung cancer and how radical radiotherapy should be best delivered and integrated with other treatments.
